Active Directory integration and possibility to have employee users from other domains

We have Active Directory integration so users need to login with their AD credentials.

To have our users manage their passwords in only one place, we have to set the Require SSO login option to Yes.
However, this blocks our ability to upgrade client users to employee users, as SSO requires all employees (not just the AD-provided ones) to go through SSO.

But we can't have our AD manage passwords for users outside the organization.

How to solve this? We need to be able to switch some client accounts to employee accounts because client accounts can't use the Drive Mapper or Sync App.
Or, better yet, to be a serious alternative to Dropbox, it would of course be best to support Drive Mapper and Sync App for Client accounts as well :-)
