Is there any way to get File Locking to work so when another user is in a file you are prompted to open read only or save as? I know WebDav supports this, but im not sure ShareFile has opened that feature up...any ideas and or how are you dealing without this feature?

Hi Dan! You're correct in that ShareFile currently does not support File Locking through our web application or WebDav. We are absolutely considering this feature in the future. Let us know if there are any other aspects of ShareFile that we can help with!

We really need this feature or at least put the conflicted copies in the same folder so a end user knows somebody has saved this file.

This feature would be really great. We love all aspects of Sharefile except the fact that we get conflicted copies.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. We do have a check in/check out feature on the ShareFile roadmap for 2014. This feature would allow you to indicate to other users that you are working on a document by "checking it out". The goal is to help prevent conflicting copies of the same document. We will keep you updated when we have more details.

Any updates on this feature?  I have several companies currently utilizing a local file share or SharePoint that want to make a switch to ShareFile.  This feature alone is the only remaining reason they are not switching yet.

Citrix, please respond to this matter. It is causing loss of business for you and your partners and is seen as a "show stopper" for many deals...

My company just commissioned a project to find a replacement for ShareFile, primarily because of the lack of file locking / checkin-checkout functionality. I just found this thread today - and while we are probably not interested in joining a beta program, we are very interested in a timetable for this feature on BOTH Windows and Mac platforms. If it were available on one or the other, then we would still need to look for an alternative solution.

I need a LOCKING solution and I need this solution yesterday - our CFO, COO and CEO with  other high-level executives are experiencing MAJOR problems on global collaboration documentation due to the plethora of mobile devices, and users all around the globe. Projects are worked on in a collaborative fashion. Email alerts are worthless as these high-level folks have a an enormous amount of unread emails and to be honest notifications are NOT actionable by executives they are simply NOISE to them, and more often then not, they want it disabled anyways.

I need and want to participate in this beta to give them confidence again in ShareFile, else this is so bad I will have to consider Box or DropBox as this is a MAJOR SHOW STOPPER for our company given the exposure and frustration which is now causing the product to be talked about negatively and its out of control. I can not STRESS how urgent this is to keep our account.

Thanks for listening!!!

Is there automatic global file locking yet?
We are an AutoCAD house and We have tried Check In/Check Out in the past.
No-one remembers to close and Check In files 100% of the time which means it is a daily hassle.

We need Global Automatic locking without distinction between office. Can you provide it yet?

Check-In/ Check-Out is currently available. ShareFile users can now use the web application or ShareFile Sync for Windows to check out files, as well as check files in when finished. Only a user who has checked out a file may check it back in. By default, a file check-out will expire automatically after 24 hours.

Please contact ShareFile Support (support@sharefile.com) to have this feature enabled for your account.

Hi Paul,

Check-In/Check-Out is still currently being turned on for existing accounts only upon request. It is turned on automatically for newly created accounts, and it will be turned on retroactively for existing accounts hopefully, by the end of the month.

Hi Crystal - support have enabled the feature, but the check out option is still not showing, is there further local setting changes that need to be made to enable the feature?
