FTP issue while connecting with ETL tool

Hi All,
I would need advise on the FTP issue I am facing while connecting to sharefile using ETL tool which is SSIS(Sql server integration services).

Let me share the details of the ETL process flow involving FTP connection:
1. SSIS connects to FTP to read the files from the set of child folders and move it to local location for processing.
2. Once the files are processed SSIS packages moves the files to pre specified FTP location.
3. Both the above steps are repeated for each parent folder.

Issue:
SSIS package faces the intermittent issue while connecting to FTP either on Step1 or Step2. The package fails with the error saying "FTP connection terminated". Due to this the ETL process fails in between.

Probable Potential Cause:
There might be simultaneous connection on FTP.

Could I get the kind advise on the issue and details on simultaneous connections per user. Is it possible to increase this limit?

If any other suggestion kindly advise.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Prashant,

There is a limit of 8 simultaneous connections per our article here: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX207859

This limit may not be increased.

Have you tried a connection with any other FTP clients to see if the problem is specific to that client (and a possible setting)?  The most common reason for an FTP connection not working is not opening outbound ports between 32768-57344.  If those outbound ports are not opened, you will be able to connect, but when you send any instruction, the connection will terminate.

Hi Leo

Thanks for the quick response.

Outbound port 21(which is default for SSIS) is used as I can check in SSIS. I am not using any third party FTP client, I am using FTP connection which is built in SSIS. Is this something we need to look into?

However I can still connect to FTP location using port 21, but only sometimes the FTP connection time-out or terminates.

Thanks

Hi Prashant,

I can't advise on SSIS itself.  From ShareFile's perspective, everything used to connect to an account via FTP, including SSIS, is effectively third party.  If it is only sometimes terminating and works most of the time, then the only advice I can give would be to start with whatever logging utility you may have to try to see what it's failing on.
