Is it possible to send notifications manually after a file is uploaded?

We do not want to enable automatic upload notifications on our Client folders because that doesn't provide enough control, customization, or room for error. I know that we can manually notify users when they have been added to a folder, and send a unique message with that notification. Is it possible to have the same functionality when adding new files? In other words, perhaps the drop down menu next to that file could include a Notify option that would also open an email box. That way, the client can know exactly what has been added and why and sign in at their convenience to take a look. Thanks.

Hi Rachel,

This functionality is actually available when uploading into a Shared Folder (but not directly to your My Files and Folders area). When you drag a file into the upload box, or choose a file to upload, there is a box to select which users you would like to send email notifications.

This will allow you to select which users need the alert, rather than adding them to receive every alert on a particular folder. The users you select must have "download" permissions on that particular folder in order to be added for a upload notification.

There is an "idea" on the Community currently requesting similar functionality.

I hope this helps!

My version of Sharefile does not have that check box. Maybe I need to update? Also, if I have that option and check that box, will it open up a dialogue box with all the people who share that folder and allow picking and choosing among them? Thanks.

Hi Rachel, if you are the admin on the account you should be able to enable "proactive notifications" from the 'Admin' page of the account, which will turn on that checkbox for you. It will then bring up a dialogue with the people on that folder as you stated.

Hi,  I am not an admin user.  When an admin user turns on the "proactive notifications" feature, does it become available to all employee and client users associated with the account?

Hi Tom,

Proactive Notifications was discontinued and is no longer a current feature.

Great. Thanks. I was able to do that. New question: so when users login to see the new file, why does it only take them to a screen to download or view that one file? Why not just go to the full access and the file within the folder? Is that another setting I can turn on?

If they use the link provided in the alert, it only provides them with that file. That's not something we are able to change currently.

Thanks. I did discover that if I click on the text that has the Folder Names, it will do that. For example, in the picture below, if I click on the word Test (folder name) it will take me to the folder with the document. Maybe it wouldn't be too difficult to add code so a line there would say: "Click here to access the folder" or something like that.

You can also use the "Note" function to simply send an email.
