ShareFile is named different depending where it comes up
  • ShareFile Sync as in the current version 3.22
  • Citrix Files for Outlook as in the current add-in 6.2.10
  • ShareFile Desktop App for Windows
How should one have a clear view?

Is there an explanation about the product nameing?

Thanks!

Claudio

Hi Claudio and Ross,

I'm not sure if you've seen the Citrix Product Guide (https://www.citrix.com/about/citrix-product-guide/) while that doesn't give specifics, it does give an overview to the rebranding efforts of Citrix (and ShareFile) applications.

I'll pass this post to my colleagues on the Product Management team and see if someone can address these questions specifically.

Thanks!

Claudio / Ross, I will do my best to answer, specifically around desktop apps and break this down into two sections:

1) General ShareFile Apps rebranding:
The apps will be re-branded as Citrix Files for [platform / activity], as part of the overall rebranding of the ShareFile service - more to come on this one as the rebranding will take time, however, some high level details can be found here: https://www.citrix.com/about/citrix-product-guide/. For example, the ShareFile Outlook Plug-in was recently rebranded Citrix Files for Outlook, as you mentioned above and ShareFile Migration Tool was re-branded as Citrix Files Migration Tool. This also extends to our mobile apps which we have re-branded from ShareFile for iOS / Android to Citrix Files for iOS / Android.

2) Drive Mapper, Desktop App and Sync:
ShareFile Drive Mapper, Desktop App for Windows / Mac and Sync for Windows / Mac wont be re-branded, but instead will evolve and be incorporated into Citrix Files for Windows / Mac as mentioned here: https://www.citrix.com/blogs/2018/08/28/three-in-one-announcing-citrix-files-for-windows-and-mac-to-...

Throughout this coming year, Drive Mapper, Desktop App for Windows / Mac and Sync for Windows / Mac will be upgraded to Citrix Files for Windows / Mac. You may have seen us start this process already if you had Drive Mapper or Desktop App for Mac as those apps are programmatically uninstalled when you install Citrix Files for Windows / Citrix Files for Mac on the same device. Please note, we wont be auto-upgrading older apps, for example Sync, until feature parity is achieved within Citrix Files, which we are currently hard at work on achieving parity. I expect the auto upgrade process will go in the following order beginning early next year and running throughout the entire year as parity is achieved with each older app.
  1. Drive Mapper
  2. Desktop App for Mac
  3. Desktop App for Windows
  4. Sync for Mac
  5. Sync for Windows

I hope this helps and I hope you both have a happy Holiday season!

Thanks,
ChrisA

Very helpful--particularly on the convergence of different products evolving into eventually just Citrix Files. Thanks!
