Sync user desktop across multiple computers

Hi
I am new to Sharefile and would like to know if Sharefile can be used to sync desktops between different computers.
I followed this guide:
https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX226307
to use symbolic link, but that works fine on one computer, but on the second computer both files will exist:
c:\users\username\desktop
c:\users@username\sharefile\linkedlocations\desktop
and then mklink /D command returns "Cannot Create a File when that file already exists".

Is there a solution for this?

Hi Anker,

Symbolic links themselves are not a ShareFile feature.  What's going on is, symbolic links are a feature in Windows that you can use to avoid moving folders around to conform with ShareFile Sync's requirements, because you can create a subfolder in one of the synced folders that points to the one you are really maintaining.

There's a couple articles (and some caveats) about them online you can look at for more information to get an idea, such as at:
https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2016/12/02/symlinks-windows-10/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link

So basically, if you're trying to use symbolic links to make two desktops match up, you are literally taking ShareFile out of the equation.

Hi Leo

But you are missing the point - it would be really great if Sharefile could be used to sync users desktop (and documents folder), instead of having to implement folder redirection in windows system or some other system. Especially great for users that are often out of office and often work offline in airplanes etc.

I have seen this feature one of your competitors Syncplicity and I think it would a great addon to Sharefiles other great features.

OK, so this is actually a request for us to be able to have synchronized desktops in addition to files, rather than a question of how to do it with symbolic links.  I'm going to go ahead and re-categorize the thread so that it matches what the topic is.

Hi Leo

Yes, great with the feature request.

I hope your developers will implement this quickly :-)

Thanks
